Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said punters filled their boots with Black Caviar’s effortless win in the Lightning Stakes and the he was sure they would do the same in the Newmarket with the star mare now a $1.40 favourite.
“How can they beat her,†said Sullivan.
“Punters who took the odds anywhere between $1.45 and $1.28 did not have a second where they would have felt any stress.
Sullivan said Sportingbet Australia held well over one million dollars on Black Caviar and he predicted that figure would be even bigger in the Newmarket.
“We held well over $1m on Black Caviar with one bet of $200,000 and two of $100,000,†Sullivan said.
“Punters were putting their entire bank on her and it was only a short term loan paid back with interest.
“We held a very similar amount on Black Caviar as we did on So You Think in the Cox Plate last year but after that win, I am sure we will well and truly pass that figure in the Newmarket.”
